West Ham midfielder Pedro Obiang did not cover himself in glory during the defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on Friday night.
The Spaniard failed to get close to Seagulls winger Jose Izquierdo for Brighton’s second goal before half time, committing to a despairing lunge before the Colombian put a long range effort past keeper Joe Hart.
The goal came at a crucial time when the Hammers had slowly worked their way back into the match following a terrible start after conceding a Glenn Murray goal in the first ten minutes of the game.
Obiang has been partnered in midfield by Cheikhou Kouyate in recent matches in the absence of captain Mark Noble, who has been benched for the last two games.
Here is some of the Twitter reaction from West Ham fans, commenting on Obiang’s recent displays, and questioning whether he is deserving of a starting place at the moment:
Obiang was our worse player. He gave the ball to them more than us.

Nobody worse than Obiang. At fault for their first. Didn’t track runners at any point and his passing was vile. I’m usually his biggest fan.

Nobles not played for a month! Obiang and Arnie have been worse.
