Slaven Bilic has hailed his side’s victory over Huddersfield Town last night as ‘the perfect birthday present’.

The Croatian had seen an increasing amount of pressure piled upon him in recent weeks following the Hammers awful start to the season in which they had lost three consecutive games, however tensions were relieved last night with three points against David Wagner’s side.

Pedro Obiang and Andre Ayew goals sealed the win for the home side, and Bilic says he is thrilled to get off the mark following their disappointing first few games.

“It is the perfect birthday present,” he said speaking on whufc.com. “I am very pleased with the way we dealt with the difficult situation that was created. After three defeats your confidence is a bit down and all that, but the lads did everything we asked from them.

“We had a gameplan and from the first moment we were on the front foot and we were really closing them down. We were really dominant and we created a couple of big chances and, more than that, we stopped them from creating anything.

“There were a lot of things happening in their box, so it gave us a boost for the second half to continue like this and we got the reward. We were a little bit lucky for the first goal but overall we deserved the three points.”

The victory lifts Hammers of the foot of the table and in to 18th place, level on points with Leicester City, and three clear of both Crystal Palace and Bournemouth who are yet to earn a single point.
