West Ham forward Andre Ayew stepped off the bench to help secure a 2-0 win over Huddersfield on Monday night.
The Ghanaian came on to a chorus of boos from the London Stadium crowd who were furious with Slaven Bilic’s decision to sub off Javier Hernandez.
However, Ayew became an instant impact – setting up the first before firing home the second.
The result means West Ham are off the bottom of the table. It could be temporary solace for Bilic’s side, but with West Brom on the horizon it could be the catalyst for a genuine revival.
Whether Ayew starts for the East Londoners on Saturday or if Bilic now views him as a super-sub will be a big decision for the Croat. Hernandez was ineffective on the wing, while Andy Carroll struggled to get into the game.
West Ham fans have taken to social media to praise the forward for his instant impact…
Come on hands up, who thought he shouldn't have taken Hernandez off for Ayew ⚒

Created several chances, could have been 3 or 4 nil to be honest but we can't complain. Ayew made an instant impact, clever from Slav

If I was the manager I'd start upfront with Ayew and Chicharito and use Carroll as an impact sub.

Ayew gets criticism but is one of few #whufc players capable of playing between the lines (+Lanzini obvs). His impact was no coincidence.
