West Ham co-owner David Gold has revealed Michail Antonio’s injury is ‘not as bad’ as first feared and the forward could return soon for Slaven Bilic’s side.

Antonio was forced to leave the field just before the half hour mark during Saturday’s clash with Tottenham after suffering a problem with his groin, however following a scan it has been revealed the former Sheffield Wednesday man could soon be back in action for his side.

Gold tweeted: “We are hopeful that Michail will only miss the Swansea game.”

Antonio had missed all of pre-season with the Hammers and the start of the new game after suffering an injury back in April, and his return in recent weeks had been much welcomed by the club and fans.

The Englishman’s influence was felt quickly, as after his return to the side the Hammers managed to go unbeaten in three games before the weekend’s 3-2 defeat to Spurs.

Following the loss, Bilic’s side sit 18th in the Premier League table after six games having picked up only four points.
