West Ham vice chairman Karen Brady has given an update on the club’s move for Sporting Lisbon star William Carvalho.

The Portugal international has been heavily rumoured to be on his way to the London Stadium over the past week, with reports suggesting the 25-year-old has already agreed personal terms with the East London club ahead of the move.

However, with Sporting and West Ham differing in their valuation of the midfielder – the Portuguese club are asking for as much as £40 million for his services – a deal is yet to materialise.

Brady, who appeared on Sky Sports Debate on Wednesday evening, has hinted the deal is still in the offing despite the frustrations.

“My chairman (David Sullivan) handles all the transfers and negotiations and he’s working very closely (on the Carvalho deal),” Brady told Debate.

“It’s very complex signing players, you think you make a decision to buy them but there’s so many various different layers and actually getting it done and doing it in the timeframe you want isn’t always possible.

“But I know they are working very hard on it.”
