Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce insists he is ‘doing his best’ to sign West Ham flop Robert Snodgrass.

The Scotland international has been told he is free to leave the London Stadium this summer after failing to impress since his January move to the club. Snodgrass joined the Hammers early into the New Year in a £10 million switch from Hull City, but has since struggled with form.

After finding the net for The Tigers an impressive 9 times before Christmas, the Scot failed to do once for the Hammers in 15 appearances.

He was left out of Slaven Bilic’s squads for trips to both Manchester United and Southampton in the Premier League, and also played no part in the Iron’s 2-0 victory over Cheltenham Town last night.

Bruce, who has been in charge of Villa since October 2016, is keen to over Snodgrass a route out of the London Stadium.

“[Snodgrass] is someone who I’ve worked with before, I know he’s got big experience, has done it, been there and got the T-shirt,” he told BBC WM.

“He can play in a few positions up the top end of the pitch, can make a goal, score a goal and has a wonderful delivery from set-pieces.

“So if I can pull it over the line, I’ll try my best.”
