Slaven Bilic has admitted his West Ham side ‘simply weren’t good enough’ after Saturday’s defeat to Newcastle, and has said Rafael Benitez’s side were ‘better in eveything’.

The Hammers lost their third consecutive Premier League game as they succumbed to a 3-0 defeat to the Magpies at St James’ Park at the weekend.

The hosts took the lead ten minutes before the break when summer signing Joselu found the net from inside the box. Second half strikes from Ciaran Clark and substitute Aleksandar Mitrovic sealed the 3-0 victory, leaving the Hammers rock bottom of the Premier League table.

Disappointed with the result, Bilic says only he and his players are to blame.

“It’s very disappointing and it’s very frustrating, the way we played,” he said following the defeat. “They were quicker, better in possession, better to the second ball and they punished our mistakes. It simply wasn’t good enough.

“The first two goals, we gave them the ball in dangerous areas, but we still have to react. They were individual mistakes but still you can make it up and it doesn’t have to be a goal, but we helped them.

“They were more powerful than us, more physical and it wasn’t good.”

The defeat was Bilic’s side’s third on the bounce in the Premier League after losses at Manchester United and Southampton in the previous weeks, and the Croatian hinted that his side could be in for a tough season unless they turn thing around soon.

“Nobody will get us out of this situation other than ourselves. With this international break, we will need to sort this out.”
