West Ham midfielder Manuel Lanzini has pulled out of the Argentina squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers with a knee injury.

Lanzini had been named in Jorge Sampaoli’s 28-man-squad to take on both Uruguay and Venezuela early next month, and was in line to earn his third cap for his country, however will now miss out after withdrawing.

The Argentine had been suffering with injury since the early stages of West Ham’s pre-season tour of Europe and has missed all four the Hammers games so far this season. He had been expected to be ready to play Huddersfield on September 11th after the international break, however that now looks unlikely with the recent set-back.

The Hammers have sorely missed Lanzini in the early stages of the new campaign having lost all three of their fixtures in the Premier League to Manchester United, Southampton and Newcastle respectively.

Lanzini could return by the end of September, however West Ham boss Slaven Bilic will assess his latest injury before allowing him back in action.
