Javier Hernandez made his West Ham United debut earlier this week, and following his impressive cameo in Claret and Blue, the Mexico international says he is looking forward to what he hopes to be a ‘very good’ season.

The former Manchester United and Bayer Leverkusen came off the bench with 20 minutes to go during the 3-3 draw with German side Altona 93, and almost scored with within minutes of his entrance had it not been for some excellent last ditch defending.

Hernandez – who said he was ‘very happy’ to have made his Hammers debut – is looking forward to the upcoming campaign with his new West Ham team-mates. Speaking on the club’s official website, the 29-year-old forward said: I was very happy to be back into a football pitch. I am now with my new team and we had a good game against a good team. We drew 3-3 and I played for 20 minutes, I feel very good and hopefully I can get better with each game.”

When asked how he found, playing with his new team-mates, the Mexican replied: “Obviously when you have quality in the team like we have, it’s easier to go in the pitch and try to think like them. We have a lot of quality and a lot of different types of players and ways of playing, so it’s easy and we’re going to have a very good season, I hope.

“When the games go on, we are going to feel better with each other after each game. We will build our chemistry like a team and hopefully we can get the proper results in the Premier League.”

West Ham take on Manchester City in their final game of pre-season this Friday in Iceland where Hernandez is expected to make his full debut for Slaven Bilic’s side.
