Another midfielder who was perhaps better than his relegated side was Marten De Roon of Middlesbrough. The £12 million man was a solid figure in the middle of the park for Boro last season, providing both defensive stability and a touch of class going forward too. He is Dutch, after all.
De Roon scored 5 goals from midfield last season, and such were his performances he has emerged as a surprise target for both Everton and Manchester United this summer.
