With West Ham manager Slaven Bilic seeking pace this summer, the Hammers have again been linked with another winger which could match the Croatian’s criteria.

Darmstadt midfielder Marcel Heller is out of contract this summer, and despite being 31 years of age, he is still noted for his speed on the left flank.

It still seems very much a short term solution considering the German’s age. The club are reportedly only seeking three more signings that can improve the quality of the club’s starting eleven and Heller’s stats don’t seem to suggest that he would offer the step up in class being sought. He made 32 appearances in the Bundesliga last season, scoring three goals and providing five assists

West Ham were linked with Mexican winger Jurgen Damm last week who is also known for his pace. It seems West Ham scouts are indeed running the rule over players with speed as the primary focus.

With Heller, the fact that he can also play as a left back may strengthen his case, considering Bilic may stick with wing backs in a back three, but I don’t think many Hammers fans will be enamoured by the prospect of signing a player who was relegated from the Bundesliga last season.
