West Ham’s pursuit of Eupen winger Henry Onyekuru was boosted by news that he wants to be a first team regular at his next club.

There were however a couple more pieces of information that came out of the interview with Kwese ESPN that Hammers fans should be aware of. The Nigerian international told the website that he doesn’t want to go to a club struggling at the wrong end of the table and wants trophies straight away despite his young age:

“I won’t like to go to a club where I will fight again just to stay in the league. I want to win trophies and if I can win trophies at my age, it will be good for me.”

The 20 year old also revealed he is an Arsenal fan; mainly because of Nigerian legend Kanu’s association with the club:

“I used to watch [Kanu] a lot when he played for Nigeria and also Arsenal because I have been an Arsenal fan since [then], and I like the way he plays more with his head and not his strength.”

Sky Sports reported on Wednesday that West Ham are now “favourites” to land the forward but Onyekuru was quick to point out that he will only agree to an offer from a club once his terms have been met, and so far his agent has not come to an agreement with any club despite proposals from England, France and Germany.

“My agents are in talks with top clubs in the Premier League, Bundesliga, French league and others. If they accept our terms, then I’ll make a decision.”
