West Ham still maintain an interest in FC Cologne striker Anthony Modeste, according to Express.

The German newspaper says that the Frenchman will be available for €30million but the Hammers could face competition from Ligue One club Marseille if they want to sign the 29 year old.

Modeste had an excellent season for Cologne, having only finished behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Robert Lewandowski in the list of Bundesliga’s top goalscorers last campaign, scoring 25 goals.

His form in front of goal prompted a bid from Chinese Super League club Tianjian Quanjian in the January transfer window, reported to be closer to €55million, but the forward remained in Germany.

Asked by the Express about the interest being shown in Modeste, Cologne’s sporting director Jorg Schmadtke said they had not been contacted by any club, asserting that perhaps West Ham and Marseille had contacted the player first about moving clubs rather than the Bundesliga side:

“Maybe they all talk to the player first – I do not know.”
