West Ham fans were today greeted with the disappointing news that their club are set to miss out on long term target Anthony Modeste after German newspaper Express have reported that the striker is set to move to the Chinese Super League with Tianjin Quanjian.
The Hammers had previously enquired about signing the 29-year-old last summer, and only recently were alleged to be preparing a £26 million bid for the forward, however the highly rated Frenchman now appears ready to cash in and make the move to China in a deal worth a reported £35 million (€40 million).
In joining Tianjin Quanjian, Modeste would be linking up with Belgium star Axel Witsel and former AC Milan and Chelsea forward Alexandre Pato, as well a number of other high profile players who now ply their trade in the league including Brazilian quarter Hulk, Oscar, Alex Teixeira and Ramires.
Hammers fans and others alike have taken to Twitter to express their disappointment at the alleged move, with many frustrated, and indeed slightly amused, that the striker appears to have made the move for the big one of the CPL …
Anthony Modeste going to China for €35m. That is ridiculous money for someone of his age.
