West Ham fans have been left stunned by David Gold’s recent comments on TalkSport, in which he stated the club need to “find the money” to sign strikers this summer.

In the interview, the Hammers co-Chairman touched upon his side’s links with Jack Wilshere, the failed recruitment of drive of last summer and his club’s ‘desperate’ need for a new centre forward ahead of the new season.

“It’s clear to most fans that we are desperate for centre-forwards,” said Gold.

“Andy Carroll is injury-prone as we know, we have had an injury problem with [Diafra] Sakho and we have just got to bring in centre-forwards.”

It was the comments that followed however that appear have rubbed fans up the wrong way, as Gold added: “We have got to find the money. Without strikers, you struggle in the Premier League. You struggle in any division because strikers are your key players.

“You have to spend your money wisely but it must be on strikers, particularly strikers that have had experience with Premier League football – the very best we can afford.”

Hammers fans have been frustrated at their clubs lack of investment, or more accurately poor investment, over the past seasons and have been crying for the club’s owners to invest early and heavily this summer to avoid a repeat of last season in which the club spent much of the season in a relegation dog fight.

The comments from Gold however, suggest the club are not yet near that target and are still waiting for funds to be available to make such moves happen.

The statement hasn’t gone down well at all with he faithful, with many taking to Twitter to express their frustration.
