West Ham will once again face a tough opening day fixture as Slaven Bilic’s side travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United on the 12th of August.
The tie means the Hammers have now been drawn against a ‘top’ side in each of the last four seasons, having faced Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea respectively in the past three years.
Moreover to add to the dismay, West Ham will be unable to play a game at the London Stadium until September, due to the venue playing host to this summer’s World Athletics Championships. The first time Bilic’s men will play at home will be when they host Premier League newcomers Huddersfield Town on September 9th.
The news has been greeted unwelcomely by Hammers fans, with many taking to Twitter to vent their frustrations at what most certainly isn’t the dream start to the net campaign as many would ahem hoped for. Fair to say the United lot are a bit happier ….
