West Ham have turned down the opportunity to sign veteran goalkeeper Iker Casillas on a free transfer, according to Transfermarketweb.

The Spanish legend is out of contract after a two year spell with Portuguese side Porto but the Hammers have reportedly said ‘no’ to the 36 year old after baulking at the former Real Madrid star’s contract demands.

Casillas was also offered to Arsenal and Liverpool, but while the Gunners are said to have also rejected a chance to sign the keeper, the Reds are believed to be more keen.

The shot stopper has 167 caps for his country, a record for a European player, and won a World Cup and two European Championships as Spain’s number one.

At club level, he spent 25 years with Real Madrid as both a youth player and a regular for the senior side. He made over 700 appearances after making his debut in 1999, winning five La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies during his timeĀ at the club.
