West Ham legend Sir Trevor Brooking says he would be “delighted” to see Manchester City full back Pablo Zabaleta join the Hammers in the summer.
Speaking to Radio 5 Live (quotes via the Evening Standard), Brooking believes the West Ham squad is lacking leadership and he feels the Argentinian could be an ideal recruit for Slaven Bilic’s side:
“West Ham team have lacked leaders. When things have gone a little bit dodgy during a game and you’re looking around for who is going to get hold of it and put a couple of tackles in – Zabaleta would be perfect for this group of players at the club. Whoever he ends up with, he’s going to be a plus. I’d be delighted [if he joined West Ham].”
The right back is available on a free transfer in the summer with his contract expiring in June and the player was given a fond farewell by City fans after playing his final game at the Etihad stadium in the 3-1 win over West Brom last night.
The Hammers are believed to be in pole position to sign Zabaleta, having offered the 32 year old a two year contract to move to the London stadium. The defender is said to be still considering his options with West Ham waiting for a final decision from the player.
