Manchester United could sell centre back Chris Smalling in the summer, according to the Sun.

West Ham are seeking to strengthen their backline after a poor campaign which has seen the Hammers concede 64 league goals, and manager Slaven Bilic is reportedly keen to make a move for the United defender.

Bilic’s first signing of the summer will likely be another defender with the Evening Standard stating that Manchester City’s Pablo Zabaleta is very close to agreeing a free transfer to the London stadium.

Smalling could however follow Zabaleta in through the door, but they may have to fight off West Brom who are also believed to be watching the 27 year old. The Baggies may have one advantage over the Hammers with former team mate Jonny Evans already at the club.

The Northern Irish international spent five years with Smalling at United, and the England defender maybe keen to reunite with his centre back partner at the Hawthorns.
