West Ham are interested in Mainz forward Jhon Cordoba, according to BILD, but they will have to compete with Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion for the Colombian.

The German newspaper report that Mainz won’t be able to turn down a bid in a region of €10million (£8.7million) and they believe that the Baggies are currently the side most likely to land the 24 year old.

When asked by BILD about potential interest from England, Mainz Sporting Director Rouven Schroder said that so far there have been no enquiries or offers:

“There is currently no question or offer for Jhon.”

The biggest issue for any move will be a work permit. Cordoba is a non-EU national and last played for the Colombia national side for the Under 20s back in 2013. BILD do say however that they think the loopholes within the work visa system in the UK could still allow a move to go ahead.

Cordoba joined Mainz from Granada back in 2015 initially on loan before making a permanent move to Germany for £5.5m last summer. He scored eight goals and provided five assists in 37 games last season.
