Former Chelsea player Ray Wilkins has backed Blues captain John Terry to stay in England when he departs Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Wilkins doesn’t believe the 36 year old will chase the riches in China due to his family, and although MLS is an option, he thinks West Ham may be a possible destination.

Terry has announced he will be leaving Chelsea at the end of the season, but has no intention of retiring and Wilkins told Talksport radio (quotes via the Daily Star) that the former England international could be the ideal man to plug West Ham’s leaky defence:

“No one has mentioned West Ham. They have been conceding goals left, right and centre and John being an East End boy, that might be a nice fit, but whether he’d go to another London club is another question.”

Wilkins was speaking before Hammers boss Slaven Bilic was asked about Terry by Sky Sports. The Croatian commented that “every manager and club would think about John Terry if he’s available.”

West Bromwich Albion and Bournemouth are currently leading the betting for Terry but that is likely to change over the summer when the centre half will be the subject of a number of offers from all around the world.
