West Ham striker Jonathan Calleri is hoping he will be given a chance to start against Sunderland at the weekend.

The Argentinian made only his 14th appearance of the season against Swansea City on Saturday, after coming on in the first half for the injured Michail Antonio. Speaking to the club’s official website, the 23 year old said he wants to show manager Slaven Bilic he deserves more chances:

“We have six games left. As a player, I always try to do my best in order to play all the games, but it is a managerĀ“s decision to pick the team. Saturday could be a chance for me to start the game and, if I do, I will try to do my best to be managerĀ“s first choice to play.”

Both Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho were unused substitutes at the weekend, and either could be in line to start ahead of Calleri at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

Sakho played 26 minutes against Arsenal in the 3-0 defeat last week, and is gradually working his way back to full fitness after months out with a back injury. Carroll meanwhile was replaced by Sakho against the Gunners and was rested by Bilic against Swansea.
