West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has explained how striker Andy Carroll sustained his latest injury.

In a press conference in the build up for tomorrow’s match against Everton, the Hammers boss said Carroll picked up an adductor injury while taking a shot which led to Andre Ayew’s first goal against Sunderland. He is quoted by Sky Sports as saying:

“We can talk about a miskick or an assist for Andre’s goal, but he said at that moment he felt it. He had a scan after the game, it showed nothing major but it’s serious enough to rule him out of Saturday’s game.”

The groin problem means that West Ham will go into the game tomorrow very light on attacking options. Diafra Sakho suffered a minor injury which kept him out of the trip to the Black Cats, and it is not known whether he will be fit for tomorrow.

With Michail Antonio out for the season, it leaves Bilic down to just two fairly inexperienced strikers. Argentinian Jonathan Calleri has not performed since arriving in the summer on loan, scoring just one goal in 15 games.

Some fans would like to see Ashley Fletcher given another chance. The ex Manchester United striker has not featured in a Premier League game since the start of February when he came on as a late substitute in the 4-0 defeat to Manchester City.
