West Ham are pursuing a deal for Cologne forward Anthony Modeste, according to the Mirror. The 28 year old has been in red hot form for the Bundesliga club this season.
Currently on 22 league goals this campaign, the Frenchman is joint seventh on the list of top goalscorers in Europe. He has spent most of his career in the top French and German leagues, but he did have a brief spell in English football on loan from Bordeaux with Blackburn Rovers in 2012.
After another brief loan spell with Bastia, he moved to the Bundesliga to play for Hoffenheim in 2013. After two relatively productive seasons, he switched to Cologne in 2015, and has become the club’s most important player.
After hitting the back of the net 18 times last season, his 24 goals in 28 appearances in all competitions this campaign have led to speculation that he could move on to a bigger club in the summer. With West Ham seeking to strengthen their forward line, Modeste seems like a probable target.
