A West Ham source has told the Sun newspaper that “something drastic” has to change for Slaven Bilic to keep his  job as manager.

Bilic’s side have slipped to 12th in the table, and have not won in their last five league games. What is most concerning to people inside the club though, according to the source, is the club’s abysmal defensive record this season:

“There has to be a level of performance over 90 minutes, it’s just not on at the minute and something drastic needs to happen for everyone’s sake. We can’t carry on as we have been with six goals conceded in two games against teams from which we honestly expect to get something.”

West Ham have the fourth worst defensive record in the Premier League, conceding 52 goals in 29 league games so far this season. Injuries have certainly played a part in that. Aaron Cresswell missed the opening two months of the season, only to be replaced by the inept Arthur Masuaku.  Angelo Ogbonna has been ruled out for the rest of the campaign with a knee injury, while Winston Reid will now miss the next four weeks with an adductor muscle problem.

The signing of Jose Fonte from Southampton for £8million hasn’t stemmed the flow of goals either with the Hammers failing to keep a clean sheet in any of the seven matches the Portuguese international has been involved in so far.
