Besiktas winger Gokhan Tore has explained why his loan move to West Ham didn’t work out. The Turkish international’s season ended prematurely due to a knee injury and he returned home to continue his rehabilitation.

In the six league and cup matches he did play for the Hammers though he didn’t impress but the 25 year old says he thinks that was due to another injury he sustained during pre-season.

In an interview with Turkish newspaper Fanatik (translated by Turkish-football.com), Tore revealed that a bad tackle from a West Ham team mate in training caused his season ending injury:

“I was transferred to England at the beginning of the season. I picked up a knee injury in the pre-season camp in the summer which put me back three-four weeks from match form.”

“After that I made a great effort to return to the first team. I went on to play six matches but there was another problem. During the preparations for the Crystal Palace match I was injured three minutes before the end of my workout. My team mate entered a tackle hard and I felt something in my knees. The doctors looked and decided to carry out surgery.”

During his time in England, the winger made eight appearances in all, providing one assist. West Ham shelled out £2.5million in a loan fee for Tore, and there was a purchase option included in the deal for the player. That option will not be taken up and he will be back playing in Turkey from next season.
