Reading right back Chris Gunter is concerned that manager Jaap Stam will leave the Madejski stadium. The 27 year old has seen first hand the Dutchman’s top class managerial abilities and wants him to stay at the club.

The Dutchman has been linked with replacing Slaven Bilic at West Ham in recent days, and Wales international Gunter says he is the best manager he has ever worked with at a club, despite only working with him since June. He is quoted by Football.London as saying:

“He could go anywhere [as a manager] really, which is worrying for us. Jaap Stam is the best manager I have worked under in club football. He’s been unbelievable. Everything has impressed me. The way he conducts himself and the information he gives the players is scary.”

Former Manchester United defender Stam joined Reading after the Royals finished 17th in the Championship last season. This campaign they have been challenging for promotion and are currently on course for a playoff spot, lying fifth in the table with eight matches to go.

The Reading manager only signed a two year contract which means any club would only have to pay compensation for the year that is remaining on his current deal. Stam may also be keen to move to a club that matches his ambitions with Reading’s ownership still up in the air with the club’s Thai owners trying to sell to a Chinese consortium.
