Both the Mirror and the Sun are reporting that Reading manager Jaap Stam is a primary candidate if West Ham decide to replace current boss Slaven Bilic at the end of the season.

The Croatian was reportedly set to sign a contract extension a couple of months ago but a run of five games without a win has seen the club slip to 12th in the Premier League, leading to a rethink by West Ham’s hierarchy.

Former Manchester United defender Stam has impressed with his brand of possession football this season which has led to the Royals being transformed from Championship strugglers to playoff contenders.

The Dutchman only signed a two year contract at the Madejski stadium and with doubts over the future owners of the club, Stam may have ambitions of leaving the side for a team with better prospects.

Stam has guided Reading to fifth in the Championship table, with 67 points from 38 games. They are ten points off the automatic promotion spots with eight games to go, but are poised to claim at least a playoff spot with the Royals six points ahead of Fulham in seventh.
