Reading manager Jaap Stam says he is happy that his name is being linked with West Ham as it gives him recognition for the work he has done at the Royals this season.

Although he did say he was not sure whether the rumours about him being lined up to replace Slaven Bilic as Hammers boss were true, he is quoted by the Daily Express as saying he is open minded about his future:

“I am aware of it [West Ham’s interest]. That is what happens. What happens next season, happens next season. It is nice to be recognised. I do not know if it is true – everyone wants recognition.”

Stam took over at Reading in June and has turned around the club’s fortunes after they finished 17th in the Championship last season. This campaign they find themselves fifth in the table, and barring an end of the season drop off in form, should secure a playoff place.

The Dutchman is known for possession based football, and was recently praised by one of his players, Wales international Chris Gunter, as being the best manager he had ever had a club level despite only working with him for eight months.
