West Ham centre back Reece Oxford says he is hoping to learn a thing or two from Reading manager Jaap Stam after joining the Royals on loan until the end of the season.

Dutch international Stam played for AC Milan, Manchester United and Lazio during his time as a player, and is currently excelling as manager in the Championship, with his side sitting third in the table. Oxford told Reading’s official website that he talked over the move with Hammers boss Slaven Bilic before joining Reading on deadline day:

“One of the big reasons why I wanted to join Reading was Jaap Stam. Like Slaven Bilic said, he was one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League and the world, so hopefully I can come here and he can teach me a few things.”

The 18 year old recovered full fitness at the start of January after sustaining an ankle injury back in October. He will be hopeful of gaining much needed first team experience during his loan spell, learning from Stam and also playing a possession based style of football which will suit his game.

He could featureĀ for Reading in their match against Ipswich Town at Portman Road tomorrow afternoon.
