West Ham turned down the opportunity to sign former Juventus centre back Martin Caceres after baulking at the player’s wage demands, according to Darren Lewis of the Mirror.

The Hammers, along with a number of other clubs, were offered the Uruguayan international during the January transfer window but the 29 year old was demanding £100,000 a week.

Caceres is currently available on a free transfer after leaving Juventus in the summer. He spent four years with the Biaconeri before which he spent some time playing in Spain with Barcelona and Sevilla.

He has 68 caps for Uruguay and can play right across the backline, which suggests Hammers boss Slaven Bilic may have been considering Caceres to help strengthen the right full back area.

West Ham did not sign a right back during the transfer window despite being linked with a number of different players. Even on deadline day, a move for PSV’s Colombian full back Santiago Arias was rumoured but no transfer materialised.
