Nice are interested in signing Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier in the January transfer window, according to Roma Giallo Rossa. West Ham and Roma have been linked with the Frenchman for a number of weeks.

Back in September, Grenier admitted he nearly joined Ligue One leaders Nice. Talking to RMC in France (translated by Get French Football News), the 25 year old said that the French club were unable to devote the time required to make the move happen on deadline day after also arranging a move for Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli.

“It took a little bit of time. We were in talks, the two clubs were in talks. I think that they had the large matter of Balotelli to deal with. Since yesterday afternoon (Wednesday), at the beginning of the evening, I knew that it would not be going any further, so I was on the one hand disappointed, but happy to stay with my friends at Lyon.”

Grenier missed the early part of the season with a shinbone injury but has failed to start a match since his return to match fitness. He has not featured in a league match since he came on as a substitute in early November against Bastia, while he has played in one League Cup tie and in the Champions League against Sevilla, although both times he only made brief appearances from the bench.
