West Ham defender James Collins believes the London stadium is a “fitting venue” for the club’s stature.

The Hammers have struggled to make the new ground their home so far with just two wins in five league matches, but Collins says that he thinks the stadium is a very positive move for the London club. He told the club’s official website:

“I think it is a great Stadium. For a Club heading in the direction that we want to go, this is a fitting venue. It is such a big Stadium and different to what we are used to but it is a tremendous ground and I know opposition players who speak very highly about. From a players point of view it is a tremendous place.”

Collins was sidelined during the international break after picking up a minor calf strain against Stoke in the last league game. He should be fit to face Tottenham at White Hart Lane in the derby this weekend.

Spurs are currently unbeaten in the league after eleven matches but their six draws have meant they find themselves five points behind league leaders Liverpool heading in to this weekend’s round of fixtures. The Hammers meanwhile will want get another victory after defeat to Everton and a draw against Stoke in the club’s last two league games as Slaven Bilic’s side slowly recover from a poor start to the season.
