Former West Ham striker Tony Cottee has backed goalkeeper Darren Randolph to establish himself as the number one in upcoming matches for the Hammers, ahead of Adrian.

The Republic of Ireland international started the 3-2 loss to Tottenham last week but did make an error for Harry Kane’s equalising goal during the match. Writing in his column for the Newham Recorder, Cottee says he believes Randolph to be the best keeper at the club:

“I’m pleased to see Darren Randolph get a chance in the Premier League. I’m a big fan of him and think he is the club’s best goalkeeper. Adrian has been a great servant to West Ham, but he has made a few high-profile errors in recent weeks and it was the right time to make a change.”

It will be interesting to see whether Randolph keeps his place against Manchester United this weekend ahead of Adrian or whether Slaven Bilic opts for the Spaniard instead.

The former Real Betis keeper has been Bilic’s chosen number one since arriving at the club in 2015 but a second successive start for Randolph at Old Trafford may indicate a lengthy spell on the sidelines for the 29 year old after some very poor early season form for the Hammers.
