West Ham are interested in signing Sunderland centre back Lamine Kone, according to the Mirror. Everton, who tried to lure the defender to Goodison Park in the summer, are also still in the running when the transfer window reopens in January.

Kone was an integral part of the Black Cats side that survived another relegation fight last season but he has not replicated his form this campaign with some pundits, most notably Jamie Carragher, believing the Ivory Coast international has downed tools after failing to secure a move away from the Stadium of Light before the start of the season.

The Hammers have struggled to keep clean sheets with just three in the league this season coming in the 1-0 victories against Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Kone’s Sunderland.

19 goals have been conceded in the opening 10 matches, the third worst in the Premier League and the defence will be something that has to be addressed if West Ham are going to recover from a poor start to the season.
