Malaga and Valencia have joined Sevilla in the race to sign West Ham striker Jonathan Calleri, according to fichajes.com. The Argentinian is currently on loan at the London stadium from Deportivo Maldonado but has yet to score in the claret and blue.

The 23 year old was interesting Sevilla last summer but they were put off by the £4million fee which West Ham paid to secure the forward on a season long loan.

Calleri’s ownership situation is a complicated one. For many years in South America, third party ownership was commonplace but with countries, especially in Europe, clamping down on the practice, agents in Argentina and Brazil in particular have been looking for different ways to make money.

Calleri’s move to Deportivo Maldonado, a second division club in Uruguay, is designed to allow those involved to pay the lowest tax possible whilst also commanding loan fees for the player as he tries to impress enough to make a permanent move to Europe. It looks likely though his future will lie away from London with Spain his most likely destination this January.
