Former West Ham manager Alan Curbishley says that the speculation around Slaven Bilic’s future at the club has to be expected considering the financial implications of being relegated from the Premier League.

Curbishley helped the Hammers avoid relegation in the 2006/07 season but with West Ham now dangerously close to the relegation zone once again after 12 matches, he told TalkSport (via HITC) that Bilic may not be given too much time to change things with the possibility of a huge loss in revenue if they do drop a division:

“Anyone around that bottom three is going to come under enormous pressure. If you consider that you lose 70 per cent of your income by getting relegated, it’s a massive blow.”

Writing in his column for the Evening Standard today, Bilic himself said he is aware he is under pressure, and with only three league wins all season, the Croatian has a job on his hands to turn things around.

The performance against Tottenham last week will give Bilic some positives but it was also the fifth time this season the Hammers have conceded three or more goals in a league match; something that can’t continue if the club’s form is to be turned around under his management.
