Winston Reid has made it into Garth Crooks’ weekly team of the week feature for BBC Sport.

The man from down under was the man of the match on Saturday after the Hammers beat Sunderland in the last minute via his left-footed drive from the edge of the area.

He also helped the east London side keep a second clean sheet in a row, after the one against Crystal Palace last weekend, as they secured a 1-0 win to lift them further away from the relegation zone.

Indeed, Crooks was impressed with how Reid performed against the Black Cats and said of his performance:

“This is the second time in as many weeks that Winston Reid has made my TOTW. Last week he battened down the hatches against Crystal Palace and this week he provided the goal that gave a lucky West Ham three points that were so desperately needed. In the meantime, the Hammers are still struggling to come to terms with playing in their new stadium. That said, I do see a far more determined side these days, prepared to grind out results and not roll over just because things are proving difficult at the moment.”

The result took the Hammers to 15th in the table as the likes of Swansea, Hull and Middlesbrough around them all dropped points in their games at the weekend.

Slaven Bilic’s men face Everton next time out in the Premier League as they travel to Goodison Park against a side looking to bounce back from a loss against Burnley on Saturday.
