In his weekly Sky Sports Prediction column, Paul Merson has said he thinks there will be plenty of goals between West Ham and Sunderland this weekend.

The two sides go head to head after contrasting fortunes last time out. The Hammers beat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park 1-0 to move up to 15th in the table but Sunderland lost away at Stoke 2-0 to leave them right at the foot of the division.

With that in mind, the former Arsenal midfielder can only see one winner at the London Stadium tomorrow afternoon:

“Sunderland are struggling, and West Ham had a really good result at Palace and played superbly in the first half. I can’t see anything different here. It’s the perfect game for them to get back-to-back wins for the first time this season, with Sunderland bottom of the league without winning a game. But West Ham have to get through the first 20 minutes positively. Sunderland have had a lot of injuries to be fair, you’ve got to feel sorry for them, they haven’t had a lot of luck so far. 3-0”

Should the Hammers win it could see them go as high as twelfth depending on whether West Brom get beaten heavily or not if at all at Liverpool.

The win for the Hammers would come as their second in as many weeks after going their previous seven games with just one win to their name against Bournemouth and that would represent a turn in form that would be very welcome by all connected with the club.
