Tony Carr has been offered a redundancy package of £14,000 despite 43 years of service at West Ham, reports the Daily Mail.

The 65-year-old was recently given an ambassadorial role within the club’s academy but it now looks as if his time at West Ham United is coming to an untimely end.

Throughout his career at the football club, Carr has brought through the likes of Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick, Joe Cole, Jermain Defoe and Glen Johnson. These crop of players have gone on to represent England, with a number of them picking up a host of Premier League and Champions League titles.

In transfer value alone, these players were sold for a combined total of around £50 million at the time. The likes of Michael Carrick and Rio Ferdinand also generated big transfer fees further on in their careers so Carr’s service has not only been invaluable to West Ham but to England as well.

Carr spoke to the Daily Mail and expressed his surprise and sadness at the way his situation has been handled by the club:

‘I’m very disappointed because I still feel I’ve got a lot to offer and West Ham has become a way of life for me after all these years.

‘The way it was done with people from HR, who have been here hardly any time at all, was particularly disrespectful in my opinion. But that’s the way of the world these days.’

The news has sparked complete outrage amongst the Hammers faithful as another club legend’s departure has been completely mistreated once again.

The man who embraced and inspired the club’s modern day ‘Academy of Football’ ethos is leaving the club against his own will and this is the fundamental reason as to why there has been a backlash from the fans.

The board have still not commented on Carr’s release despite thousands of livid supporters demanding a response.

The delay will only prompt more of a backlash due to the manner in which the news has been released, detailing the poor handling of an employee who has done so much for West Ham United.

It’s now up to the club’s senior figures to come out of the shadows and shine some light on a situation that has looked bleak from the outset.
