Using statistical analysis from WhoScored, I had a look at West Ham’s season and where our players ranked against each other.

WhoScored combines attacking and defensive contributions including goals, assists, pass completion, dribbles, cards and aerial duels among other factors to rate players after each game, and each player is given a cumulative score at the end of the season.

These results are only based on Premier League matches.

1st. Dimitri Payet

It’s no surprise to see Payet top of the list. In fact, Payet’s score of 7.74 was good enough to rank him as second in the Premier League behind Riyad Mahrez. This suggests that statistically speaking, Payet was the second best player in the league, at least consistently.

5 Man of the Match awards back up his case, with 9 goals and 12 assists. His pass success is above 80% as well.

2nd. Michail Antonio

Antonio gets 2nd for West Ham with a rating of 7.35. Antonio had an unsurprisingly lower pass percentage compared to Payet, with his dropping below 70%. His 8 Premier League goals and work rate would have raised him above his other teammates, but he was never getting close to Payet’s phenomenal rating.

According to WhoScored, Antonio only got 2 Man of the Match awards, which is shocking considering the fact that he has single handedly won us games this season. But a well deserved second place for our most underrated player.

3rd. Cheikhou Kouyate

Kouyate pipped Lanzini to 3rd place with a rating of 7.27 to Lanzini’s 7.21. Kouyate has put in some impressive performances, and it’s hard to argue with his inclusion in the top three because of his all round effect on the team. Kouyate is the engine in the midfield and he defends and goes forward in equal measure.

Only 1 Man of the Match awards shows how consistent he has been. A solid 7 throughout the season, rather than one match a 9, the next match a 5.

Notable mentions

Mauro Zarate sits in 7th place on the list, with a 7.03 rating. He was playing fairly well when he left the club, that’s why so many fans were sad to see him leave.

Ogbonna down in 12th was a strange one, but a lack of clean sheets recently combined with his early season form mean that he only scored a 6.86.

Modibo Maiga actually got a better rating than both Jelavic and Emenike in his brief substitute appearances.
