Former Irons youngster could make West Ham return after 12-year absence.

West Ham are ready to offer Michael Carrick a return to Upton Park if he doesn’t sign a contract extension at Manchester United, reports the Football Insider.

Carrick has appeared in 22 league games this season, rotating with the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger in the centre of United’s midfield.

The 34-year-old is yet to be offered a new deal but the midfielder himself admitted that he wanted to stay at the club.

According to the reliable Football Insider, Louis Van Gaal has advised the Manchester United hierarchy to offer Carrick a new deal. Last season, United lost just the once in the league when Carrick featured in midfield. He is still a very popular figure with the fans at Old Trafford but his time at the club may be coming to an end.

With Carrick’s Old Trafford career in doubt, the Hammers are ready to offer the England international a return to where it all began. Despite the fact that Carrick turns 35 during pre-season, the deep-lying playmaker is still very effective when he takes to the pitch.

Carrick is still a talented player, but it seems unlikely that Bilic will offer close to the £125,000 a week that the midfielder currently earns. The player does not fit with the club’s transfer policy of signing players built for the future but he could be a good option if the Hammers can negotiate a lower wage for next season.
