Mohamed DiameNot content with annihilating the Hammers at Anfield, Liverpool are reportedly looking at rubbing salt a little bit further into the open wound that is our current season.

According to an article originally from the East London and West Essex Guardian, Liverpool are interested in bringing midfielder Mohamed Diame in as a back up to Steven Gerrard.

This isn’t Diame’s best season in a claret and blue shirt, but we really cannot afford to lose the dynamic midfielder. He’s been played out of position far too often – I actually rate him a bit lower than Modibo Maiga as a striker – and he’s seemed a bit lethargic this season, but he remains one of our strongest players. He’s playing far more this season than last. Last year he seemed to almost always be subbed around the 70 minute mark, but this year he’s started and finished more games than not.

He’s reportedly expressed a desire to sign a new contract and stay at West Ham, but that £3.5 million release clause is always going to cause some worry.

He’s certainly got a decision on his hands; Anfield offers a promise of certain Premier League football next year, and a strong potential for European football, but no guarantee of regular participation in their games, particularly when Gerrard is fit.

Staying at West Ham means a season of fighting for survival, but it’s a team he seems happy in—and may earn more money at, if there is truth in the rumour that he may receive a nearly £10,000 per week pay rise with a new contract (sportsdirectnews.com)

I’m hoping this rumour is just something dreamed up by his agent to ensure a better deal for Diame at Upton Park – something not too dissimilar to the Arsenal scenario last January— but with our team currently struggling to win games there’s also a worry about that whole rats and sinking ships scenario.

What do you think – will we keep hold of Diame? If he were to go, what effect do you think it would have on West Ham’s season? Let us know below!

    PLEASE STAY MO.

We’ll be lucky to hang on to him. They should say come back in August but West ham have always wilted when they smell the cash. It makes getting a striker in so much more important. I’d be inclined to swallow any bad feelings and get Defoe back. He’s so lively around the box. Not young but still quick. Please MsBrady get cracking

Last year we heard he was off to Arsenal. It was going on like a circus all through January. It’s probably just the newspapers trying to sell a story or a agent trying to make some cash

  • Dunlopilo says:

If he leaves, Diarra will play as central midfielder, although he is less powerful and not exactly a box to box type of player.

The sad thing is we paid to much for peg leg and they get a ball player on the cheap makes you wonder about the managers skills

I’m pretty sure they won’t sign him.He is exactly the same style of player as Lucas. They will probably look some other Africans like Mulumbu and Tiote.
