West Ham defending the point

DemelI’m writing this piece just minutes after the final whistle has drawn close to an inevitable 0-0. Most fans will be sick of not scoring enough but they must remember to relish our superb defensive displays.

Big Sam has solidified the defence and has made Winston Reid one of the most desirable defenders in the Premier League. Guy Demel is really coming into his own and Razvan Rat is filling that previous left-back weak spot, perfectly.

The main man Jussi Jaaskaleinen has been pivotal. He has been a classy shot stopper throughout his long stay in the Premier League, and arguably one of the most consistent keepers during that period.

The best thing about having a solid defence under Big Sam is not having to worry about getting beaten by a large and embarrassing margin. For example, I can’t see West Ham losing 7-0 like Norwich City have on Saturday, and that is a pleasant feeling, which I personally enjoy.

Of course we need goals but if we do manage to get a bit of luck in a game and bag a goal, our chances of gaining three points with a single goal has to be one of the most likely in the league.

We’re a goal a game away from one of the most impressive seasons in the Premier League era and remember, our main man is on his way back. So for now at least, respect the clean sheet and respect the point!

My god…this cant be my beloved West Ham United surely…..were celebrating getting a home point in a 0-0 bore against Aston Villa and playing without a striker…UNBELIEVABLE !!!!!!

Hardly celebrating. Respect the defensive display and wait for the goals. The goals are there and when they come we will more often than not, win.

THE GOALS WILL COME….elaborate my friend. If you are going to make statements like that, you need to back it up with evidence. It is clear to me and everyone else watching this ball-retention fest that there is NO cutting edge, no craft, no final third inter-play, and simply no goal threat (may be at the odd set play). Should AC return and relapse, we are in big trouble.

If we are at the stage where you are asking us to respect a defensive display on our home ground against one of the leagues poorer sides, then sorry, you are asking the wrong bloke. Villa at home MUST equal three points if we are going to give ourselves half-a chance of survival. To set up with two wide men and no one to finish the supply is so naïve it beggars belief.

It’s embarrassing. We had all summer to get strikers in and we’ve ended up with Carlton no goals as our main striker. Then, Sam States he needs goals ” from all the players”. Is he dumb or what ? The players are not capable of scoring that’s why we don’t score goals – you need to buy players who can score – the writing was on the wall to a blind man last season, what was it ? Seven away goals all last season in the league ? – bloody disgrace ! Oh,and Carroll isn’t the Answer either – and he will probably play a few games and be injured again as is the West Ham way.
The football is dross and West Ham will be lucky to stay up.

    Three points for me

We can’t celebrate the thought of not getting beaten 7-0. Getting done 1-3 by City was enough for me.

Sullivan stated that one of the reasons we couldn’t get a second striker was because they all knew that Sam plays 1 up so they wouldn’t be first choice when AC was fit (oh the irony).

Totally agree that AC is not the answer. He’s a good player, not disputing that but he’s far from prolific. Yeah he’ll create chances for others but current form would suggest they’re not capable of finishing.

What worries me most is the way other clubs are playing good quality, passing and creative football….we most certainly are not.

Like Crystal Palace? Or Sunderland? We couldn’t particularly score last year and we did alright, no?
