Ravel Morrison’s contract situation

Ravel MorrisonReports emerged earlier this week that West Ham are paying Manchester United £25,000 every time the biggest talent currently in English football aka Ravel Morrison steps onto the pitch.

Should we be concerned by this? No not in my opinion; these types of deals are now common place in football, for example Arsenal have to fork out 10K to Southampton every time Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain plays 20 minutes or more. The more concerning part of the article published in this week’s Telegraph is the fact that Ravel Morrison only has 18 months left on his current deal.

Now we all know by now ‘loyalty’ is a term in football only reserved for the fans in today’s game…I just hope that David Gold and David Sullivan are putting together one hell of a deal to keep hold of the greatest talent this country has produced since Wayne Rooney. (Just my opinion) The fact the club have resurrected Ravel’s flagging career won’t count for much in my opinion if the deal isn’t right and that’s not me having a pop at Ravel; that is modern day football.

It’s still early days of course but the way this season is progressing every time Ravel steps onto the pitch we’re convinced he’s going to do something special; his double for the under 21’s has now taken his tally of goals for the season to six, the hype that is surrounding him is swelling and it won’t take long for the vultures to start circling.

Unfortunately as West Ham fans we’ve rather gotten used to our best players leaving; one only has to look at the current England squad for several examples in which our family silver has been flogged to the highest bidder. I just hope if/when Ravel’s time as a Hammer is up we can fleece an obscene amount of cash out of the deal and use it to invest in the team; much like that side we stuffed 3-0 recently did with their best player.

For now though I think we should just all enjoy Ravel’s dazzling talent and what will be will be.

You have put the ravel situation in a nut shell. If it ends with the board doing the usual and cash in for a rather large fee, what are the odds it would be used to help clear some of the debt to help pave the move to the OS ? I think ravel will show he is the player we think hes gonna be,and if an improved contract is late in the making, then this will show the boards intent to cash in.The spuds fans i know have been winding me up (due to the 0-3 stick i have been giving them) by saying “rav will be at the lane next season, you know we get what we want from upton park”.That is the worse case scenario for me,but like you, gonna enjoy while it lasts-COYI.

    Nice article well written.

Ravel is a bigger talent than Rooney, though Rooneys explosiveness meant he stood out more.

For me he is the best bargain buy since Cantona went to United for 500k. He has the world and centre backs oggling at his feet and who can blame him? What a talent! we have paid 70k a week contracts for bums in the past, we need to get Morrison on a substantially large contract and make him feel as if he will spearhead our team to greatness with the new stadium coming! We will be going on to bigger and better things with this boy! just need to keep hold of him now! COYI!!!

If you remember the deal when he signed West Ham can activate a further 2 and a half year extension to his contract, the board proberly wanna keep this quite so they look like they have done some great work behind the scenes!!
