West Ham Showing Their Intent This Summer

Demba BaIt’s taken a long time but West Ham have finally completed the deal for Andy Carroll to join the club from Liverpool. The Carroll saga dragged out for a number of very long weeks but the excitement and relief that we have now permanently signed the ‘Big Man’ was certainly shown on Twitter. Everybody knew that Carroll was West Ham’s main priority this summer, however during this time, we also signed both Razvan Rat and Adrian on a free. But, despite already signing three players, the excitement of this summer transfer window hasn’t ended there.

Since signing Carroll, it has become evidently clear that West Ham also want to bring in another top class striker. The majority of our transfer budget has been used to bring Carroll to the club so it will mostly be loans and frees that West Ham bring in for the remainder of the summer. Although Bony is very much admired by the club, he would cost around £10m so we can rule this move out.

The names that have popped up regarding another striker to partner Carroll are Demba Ba and Romelu Lukaku who both currently play for Chelsea. Since Mourinho was appointed as the new Chelsea manager, he has made it clear that he has no intentions of selling or loaning out Romelu Lukaku and that he will stay at Chelsea next season. However, it seems as though a loan move for Demba Ba is definitely on the cards due to the fact that it is believed Mourinho wants to get rid of Ba and Torres.

Something that I could see happening is signing Demba Ba on loan for the season and then having the option to buy him permanently at the end of the season, just like what we did with Carroll. There is no doubt about it that West Ham will set their sights on another striker and that is what their main focus will now be on. It is believed that West Ham have already contacted Chelsea regarding taking either Ba or Lukaku on loan, but as already mentioned, Demba Ba on loan is much more likely.

It also seems as though West Ham are close to signing Ludovic Sane who currently plays for Bordeaux. Sane’s main position is defensive midfield but he is certainly no stranger to playing centre back as well. I believe he would be a great addition to our current squad as we could do with a good versatile player incase we pick up a few injuries like last season. Sane’s valuation is £3m-£4m and he is trying to force a move through to the Premier League and with West Ham being the only club in for him, this could be concluded soon.

To see the way West Ham have set about their business this summer makes me very proud to be a West Ham fan and to see the players we have already bought in and the players we are currently linked with shows this club is moving in the right direction.

Definitely think we need another striker, preferably a goalscorer. Demba Ba fits the bill, but I can’t see it happening. He seemed to be a bit of a mercenary with how his move to Chelsea panned out. Two problems I can see are 1) Would we be able to afford his wages and 2) Would he be willing to return to us or would his agent see it as a backwards step?

Personally, I’d like to see DG line up a sneaky loan move, once more, for Torres. He’s had a drought before, but he was ALWAYS working his socks off and contributed in other ways. I always thought he and Carroll would make a great team. Brute strength, pace, creativity and they both give 100%

Madness!! Torres would never join the hammers and i think ba knows he has unfinished buisness with us.

All depends on Jose. With Ba, I think he’d only want to sell him outright and be done with it. Torres however, being so hefty, I think they’d settle with just reducing his wage bill. If they loaned him, it’d advertise him through playing time, something he is unlikely to get if Chelsea bag a striker and retain Lukaku. He’s going to be a Jose favourite as he’s Drogba V2.

Although I agree, Torres wouldn’t want to come here, we must remember, neither did Andy Carroll at the very beginning.

spurs look like they are going to let defoe go,I think getting him back for a nominal fee and putting him up top with Carroll would work very well . I dont see why he would not rejoin us ,did a great job when here o.k there maybe a bit of history, but allows him to stay in london and we get the poacher that we really do need, a born goalscorer.Him and Carroll between them 30 plus goals

Considering that Carroll is going to be THE man next season, and that SA rarely plays two up top, I don’t see any decent striker wanting to sign and sit on the bench all year. After all they went through to get Carroll only injury will keep him out of the line up. Not Ba nor Bony nor Torres or any other forward who think they should be starting will want any part of west ham. Should make sure they resign Hall.

4-3-3! That’s the nub of it! The fly in Big Sam’s ointment, unless we can find a striker who can play wide on the right and not only score 10-15 goals and get close to Andy, then we are going to struggle to attract anyone! Not going to get half decent striker to come in and warm the bench unless he can play wide right! Maybe BS might have a change of heart/plan and play a second striker just of the big man? We can but hope! COYI!

I would think Torres unlikely. Plus I find him a peculiar package. At times brilliant at Liverpool but at Chelsea, although working hard, at times pretty dreadful. Interesting though that he had a much better time of it last season. No Drogba. I suppose Drogba would cast a large and imposing shadow for even the best to play in. Ba is looking most likely for us. He left us when we were relegated. The Grant mess that he left bears no resemblance to The Hammers to which he would be returning.
    Good article Jake
