West Ham To Give Youngsters A Chance

Blair TurgottWith safety all but mathematically secured….is now the time for some of our academy gems to shine?

Three games to go, of course we all want to secure that top 10 finish; but with nothing more tangible to play for surely it’s time to give a go to some of our promising youngsters? Blair Turgott for example who impressed when on loan at Bradford earlier this season and really caught the eye with that stunning hat-trick he scored against the QPR reserves; or perhaps young Dan Potts who excelled in that 2-2 draw in the cup with Man United.

If there is one criticism that could be levelled at Sam Allardyce it’s that he hasn’t given our promising crop of young players enough of a chance during his tenure; but in his defence he’s been in high pressure situations in which he’s needed to rely on the tried and trusted to firstly get us back up and then to retain our Premier League status.

Surely with safety assured Sam is now in a position to blood a few of our fledging academy graduates. We lack pace and width down the right hand side for instance so I’d love to see what the aforementioned Turgott could do in that position with 3 fairly meaningless games to go.

During our defeat to Man City on Saturday the commentator mentioned that each Premier League place is worth an additional £800,000 so what’s more important? Getting a few extra pound notes which could well be spent on transfers or blooding a few youngsters at the risk of dropping a few points in our remaining fixtures? Maybe just maybe there’s a glorious balance in there somewhere.

Since Sam took charge there hasn’t been much of an opportunity for our famed academy to shine, but surely now’s the perfect time after all it is the West Ham way.

I’d love to see Paulista given a shot.

The Reading game will be the perfect chance to blood some of the kids who we all want to see in action…Spence. Lee, Potts, Turgott, We need to see them in Prem competition, and not constantly farmed out, especially when some of the first team squad have hardly set the world alight (Nolan, Vaz Te, O Neill, Taylor ). Be nice to see…but dont hold your breath !!!

hardly nothing to play for, i think it’s £850,000 for everyone position higher you get if we play our cards right we can have a bit more spending money for transfer window.

As long as i have a hole in my arse we won’t see the youngsters play. Have they ever played for Sam or Bolton before. Nolan, Taylor, demel, vaz Te, Obrien and O’Neil should make way to give some a chance. Maybe experiment a different formation. If that happens i will eat my dog.

We should do the right thing for the rest of the premier league and play our strongest team against Newcastle as they are in the relegation struggle and I want to score ten against the Reading scumbags. Youngsters will have to wait.

  • Will says:

Why not play the likes of spence turgott moncur lee Potts we have nothing to lose just see what they can do against premier league opposition

BFS has already said at press conference last week that he will not be playing youngsters. He said he may try one possibly two but because of the money per place he will be trying to finish as high as possible.

I think we should play the youngsters against Reading and that is all. We still have a duty to uphold and I don’t think the other relegation candidates will be happy if we play a poor team against Newcastle. Plus Everton are going for Champions League Football and although I want them in there instead of Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal I don’t think it will be fair.

I can take or leave BFS but he has kept us up with three to go so well happy with that ! Its probably not all down to him anyway when there is so much money involved on placings so just think the last three games won’t bring any surprises and with nothing to really play for will be an anti climax . Will be nice to do Reading though !!!!

Probably start with a strong side and then bring on the youngsters late in the games. I would give Lee, Moncur, Turgott, Potts, Spence, Fanimo, Lletget, Ruddock and possibly Driver a place on the bench over the coming matches. Let them have the experience as a well done for their progress.

  • Anthony says:

800k per place. We might be be able to climb much high but we can certainly drop a lot lower. I’d rather go full strength thank you rather than lose a decent player’s wage just to appease some of you.

  • Davie D says:

IMO, only , Spence, Potts and Turgott are good enough. Lets not throw points away. We should play our strongest team , which could include the 3 youngsters I named and lets keep our integrity and that of the premier league and go for it by helping to send newcastle down. Then they wont get Carroll, lol.
