Should West Ham Sign Him Up?

|

Andy CarrollThere is a famous song by the Clash that best sums up the current Andy Carroll situation at West Ham; with a deal already in place, the Geordie striker will be saying to the board at the end of the season “should I stay or should I go now”.

With a fee agreed for the most expensive English striker, Andy Carroll will not want to go back and sit on the bench for Liverpool. With rumours of Wilfried Bony in the summer would it make more sense to sign up the big man instead?

Sam Allardyce came out after the West Brom game and said he would love to keep the former Newcastle United man after his two goal show at Upton Park on Saturday.

His goal scoring record may not be prolific, five in 17 hardly shouts out “must buy” but he is so much more than a goal scorer. Which may sound odd for a striker, but he brings so much more. He brings players into play and his versatility is vital for West Ham. You only have to look back at last Saturday to see that, when George McCartney limped off he filled in at centre half for the remainder of match.

Carroll second goal at the weekend won him goal of the month on Match of the Day and once again reminded the media and fans alike of his quality. The volley with his weaker foot will in his mind hopefully send a reminder to Roy Hodgson that he is still there and ready to make an impact at international level.

From his point of view, a move away from Anfield must be a priority and I’m sure there won’t be a shortage of interest in his services should he continue to impress in the east end. He is big, strong, and good in the air and has a footballing brain. What club wouldn’t want Andy Carroll in their ranks?

For me Andy Carroll is an important signing for West Ham, and if we were to secure him on a long term deal in the summer it would be a step in the right direction for the Hammers. Carroll’s goals could still yet prove all important in this survival campaign, and had he not missed a couple of months due to injury I’m positive he would have notched more than the five goals he has scored in claret and blue so far.

Carroll’s signing was one of the biggest the club has ever made when he joined in August last year and if the Hammers could secure him on a permanent alongside a nippy striker the future will start looking very bright indeed.

So in my opinion Andy Carroll should stay at West Ham United for the foreseeable future.

Come on you Irons!

Yes, I think we should sign him at the right price. He is a good forward but not a van Persie or Suarez. What is the right price? Your guess is as good as mine.

In short…yes we should try to keep him. I have no idea where the 17mil figure came from though as ive never seen it confirmed by anyone from either club. Was it 2mil for the loan and 17mil for the buy or 17mil total (2+15)??? Anyone know for sure? … until i see confirmation on these numbers i won’t speculate but imho 15mil or so will prove to be good value for Andy Carroll.

I think he would be worth signing, but not at 17m,I think 10m is a fair price if he can keep his fitness and play regularly.I can’t see him going back to Liverpool after what the manager and some of the fans have said about him,and I cant see him being sold back to Newcastle at a fee far less than they paid for him.

I think ro is correct with 2million loan but l think another 13 would be ok to sign him he’s only 23or so in yrs so he’s still to play he’s best football in front of him carn the hammers

Waste of money for a club our size. £17mill gets you Butland, N’zonzi, Michu, Buttner and Sissoko.
