Maybe West Ham Should Sign Him?

Carroll scoring against Swansea CityIn the wake of Andy Carroll’s brace against West Brom, the frequent debate about his permanent signing has been mentioned once again.

The dominating striker made his name at Newcastle United before moving to Liverpool in a staggering £35 million deal. At the Merseyside club, he didn’t fit into plans that consisted of possession and ground balls for the silky Luis Suarez.

Forever West Ham is now on Google+, so be sure to find us on there by quite simply (and rather unsurprisingly) searching ‘Forever West Ham’

Hammers manager Sam Allardyce snapped up Carroll on a loan deal with the view to a permanent signing, and Carroll stated his delight at his move to the East London club.

With just 3 goals to his name many were demanding that such player shouldn’t be signed for such money, as it was touted by apparent ITKs that the potential deal could cost West Ham a large sum of £17 million. However, Carroll went on to prove doubters wrong as he scored two spectacular goals against West Bromwich Albion during the Easter weekend, one of which won goal of the month.

With 5 goals to his name, he now aims to push on a grab more, hopefully pushing friend Kevin Nolan out of the top goal-scorer spot and claiming it himself.

It cannot be denied that Andy Carroll is one of the most worrying strikers in the Premier League in such ways that other defences are petrified of his aerial ability and power. The England striker has slotted into the West Ham setup very nicely, adapting to Allardyce’s infamous ‘hoof ball’ which has also proved effective this season as the Hammers have steered themselves clear of the relegation zone well.

Chairman David Gold has stated in the past that does Sam Allardyce not renew his contract, then the aerial powerhouse Carroll will not sign for the Hammers, however, with their Premier League status as good as confirmed Allardyce is set to pen a three year contract.

For me, Carroll needs to be signed but not for the extravagant sum of £18 million, but something a lot lower, maybe around the mark of £10m. Carroll has proved effective to our setup and when given a team-mate to link with he has been amazing! Like so on his debut when he, Vaz Te and Kevin Nolan all linked up beautifully to put us 1-0 up over Fulham.

Modibo Maiga would be a good player to play off of Carroll next season with Nolan ageing, but I for one cannot see the midfielder being dropped at all! And 4-4-2 doesn’t look likely either.

Credit is due where its due, and many of you doubters of both Carroll and Allardyce need to look at our position in the league,  and how well we have done in comparison to the likes of Southampton and Reading.

Money hasn’t been splashed a lot by West Ham, unlike our London neighbours QPR … So take that into consideration too.

Are you on Facebook? Excellent, so are we http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

For me, Allardyce and Carroll should both be kept on at the end of the season as we push to become a bigger and better team. There is more to come from Carroll, and although he doesn’t look it, he is still very young.

Anyone disagree with me that we have defied the odds this season? No … So what’s gone wrong, nothing!

As long as Nolan doesn’t hang around too

  • Steve says:

Compared to southampton who are only 2 points behind with an easier game at the weekend and play great football on the floor like the hammers used to enjoy too.

    • Hugh Bevan says:

Exactly mate, we have a better squad than them too so if they are there we shouldn’t be happy with just above them. The whole look at the league position annoys me as we could be doing a lot better if we tried to start playing football.

      • Dave lea says:

Do we really have a much better squad than theirs? Also they spent 35m on players since last season, they have had backing that sam hasn’t. To say that we should be disappointed at being 11th, with seven games to go is utterly stupid. We were an absolute shambles less than 2 years ago when we got relegated, and this is our 1st year back. All in all how can our fans complain???

    • Northern Hammer says:

Erm…. great football on the floor…….. when?

  • Hugh Bevan says:

One 2 goal game doesn’t make him worth 17 mil unfortunately. As you say 10 is a fair price, anything over I would disagree with. We have spent more than other teams and our wage bill is too high for our league position, not as bad as QPR mind you. Imagine where would be in the league if we had played 2 up top occasionally against worse sides.

  • Jack says:

How anyone can whine about our league position is beyond me. We got promoted last year and have relatively comfortably as good as secured safety for next season! I’d take Carroll at a price of around 10-12 million, he’s barely had a good run of fitness this season with 2 long injury lay offs so he’s definitely worth snapping up. Get another top striker and a couple of defenders for next season such as Bony, and well have a squad easily capable of top ten! Good article!

    • Northern Hammer says:

Well said Jack… Any season ticket holder cannot possibly grumble about home results or performances… we have played some great stuff and mixed direct with good wing play and loads of neat interchange… Obviously away from home we are more cautious..

But I have watched us away for 30 plus years… and seen many more shocking displays than I have in the last two seasons…. Rotherham anyone? Blackburn away..7:1 was it, many drubbings on merseyside and in Manchester…

People should support their club, not do them down and talk rubbish…. try going to a game or three I say… COYI

    • Adam Cooper says:

      Well said

  • Patrick says:

Newcastle will come in with at least £14m so I think that’s the number West Ham will have to pay and considering Carroll’s age and potential it’s about right. I could imagine Stoke turning him into a beast so wouldn’t be surprised if they put a sneaky bid in too.

  • Adam Cooper says:

Still people being negative? Absolute jokers!! We are 11th we havent been in the bottom 3 once all season and our aim was to avoid relegation!! I wrote an article on here last week about this negativity maybe some of you should read it!! Get behind the boys!

  • Spence55 says:

Allardyce needs to stay for at least 2 more seasons to get us established and hard to beat. Lousy football for much of the time, agreed, BUT we must stay in this division and build from there and Sam is the man to bring some discipline and stability to the club after years of mismanagement.

Andy Carroll ha shown what he can do when fit. Sometimes you need to look past the goal tally and see what someone brings to other areas, and Andy ties up two defenders whenever the ball is played up…just a pity our manager cant see that another forward playing off of him (Not the god-awful pretend-striker Nolan, please) could reap great rewards. This lone striker stuff drives me mad, especially when the midfield are simply not naturals at supporting and tucking the ball away. At 24, a fit AC must be worth 12M.

Forget the nonsense written about his Anfield days. The guy had no decent or regular wide supply to his head where he does his damage. Give him decent balls into the box and the lad will do his stuff. Lets see what happens at the end of the season !!

  • wisey says:

Keep A Carrol fit for the last 7 games and hopefuly he will get us another 5 or 6 goals which should give us another 10 points to our total then sign him to lead us to the new stadium

  • ScouseJeff says:

Yeah, and I’d love Cavani, but only at £20million mind. I’d also love a brand new m5 Beemer but I won’t pay a penny over £10k I tells ya!

  • mr moon says:

If Sam keeps us up ( and we are not safe yet) he will have kept his side of the bargain so we should retain him – and Carroll. I can understand Sam must be frustrating for news hungry websites like this. No players on driving charges , fascist controversies or spiteful gossip leaked from the dressing room. All very boring and stable – so journos here please try and get behind the club and cut out all this negative stuff when most of it has no foundation.

  • andy brown says:

its true about us not being in the bottom 3 all season but how many games have we really played well in we need to change to a 442 formation and ship out diarra nolan o neil and carlton cole ordinary players at best and invest in2 if not 3 decent goal getters as for andy carroll maybe 8m-10m max

  • Peter Webb says:

If we do sigh andy carroll in 2nd season he will only get better, but will we get enough goals with him player that roll alone. he needs support,we can see it then the board can,and will need to get that better class of player-they have talked about ,and younger ones with a view to new ground.

  • Phil the iron says:

Not sure what all the fuss is about actually! Big Sam was always destined to sign new contract! And the only thing to debate about oor Andy was whether we could sign him on a big enough knock down deal! The funny thing is, his sudden surge in confidence and form might driven up the price out of our reach. It would jut be our luck for WHU having done all the work in re establishing Andy as a top class striker again only for another club to reap the benefits! Looking forward to the both of them signing for the Hammers very soon! COYI!

  • Ginge74 says:

5 goals. Lets keep it in perspective. 20 mil (17 mil plus the 2/3 mil loan fee) is not great business for a max 10 goal a season player ( which he will be with the current team around him). Spend the money on a better midfield and if we still have the money left over, then see is the Liverpool take 10 for him. Just cause they paid three times what he is worth , don’t mean we should.

  • bob says:

There is a deal in place to sign him if we want . Newcastle can offer what they want ,but we have agreed a price for him at the start of a loan and its us that have the option to take it up . Also why are people moaning where we are in the league ? I would take 17th place at least we would stay up. We have come along way in 2 years. The future is looking good for us . Also we have a great stadium to look forward too so let’s get behind everything that the club our doing for us and back Sam to take us to the next level. Coyi!

  • Peter says:

I’m also bewildered by the complaints about our season. Some low points but, we’ve never been seriously talked about in relegation discussions (bookies have us long odds all season), we’ve been in or near the top 10 and we’ve played really well at home. The only time we were really thrashed was by Arsenal away but nobody could match their second half performance. First year back I think we’ve done pretty well. As to Carroll…obviously he’s good for us…at the right price

  • USA Dave says:

I’m too lazy to rewrite this. I posted elsewhere. Copy and paste is a wonderful thing.

I have read a lot of opinions on AC after The game on Saturday. The most respected of all of the West Ham folk on Twitter, Hugh Southon, is convinced there is no chance of him signing. With David Gold publicly stating that Hugh is a trusted source in the press it’s hard not to believe it. The logic is that the agreed upon 17M fee plus the wages amounts to 35M over the life of the contract, and with many areas needing improvement that isn’t viable.

But I question the wisdom of that thinking. Sam said only last week that we have not produced enough in the final third. So a striker is needed. If Bony can cost as much as is being reported, having scored his goals in a league that is a solid step below the EPL, then is it realistic to think that a proven goal scorer on this level can be had for much less than AC? And if 35M over a four year deal for AC is not viable, how is 30M (guesstimate) for a virtual unknown doable?

My fear is that AC will be judged in a vacuum, and by the time they realize that the bird they had in hand is far better than any in the bush….he will be gone. And the best chance we have had in well over 20 years to have a true focal point, along with a manager tailor made for that very player, will vanish with him.

    Sign him. Simples.

  • Peter says:

Perhaps USA Dave is right about the price. In for a penny…in for a pound…in total about 30 million of them

  • Dave says:

If you’re looking for a proven premier league goalscorer on the cheap I hear West Brom might be looking to offload Odemwingie in the summer… 😉

  • Sam says:

What about Lukaku? Surely £15 mil would secure him? Don’t get me wrong, I like AC but can’t help but think Lukaku would score more in a season. Just a thought?
