What Was The Point Of West Ham Signing Him?

|

Wellington PaulistaWest Ham signed Wellington Paulista in January with not many people knowing too much about him and it’s now heading towards mid-March and we still don’t know much about him.

The player has been in and around the Development squad since he arrived and has scored a few goals for them but still hasn’t been around the first team squad to be given a game.

Even when the squad flew out to Dubai a few weeks ago for a training camp he decided to stay in England to play for the development squad.

Are you on Facebook? Excellent, so are we http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/ForeverWestHamcom/200938616608282

This makes me think what was the point in signing him if we aren’t going to play him? When he signed I was quite excited even though I didn’t know anything about him. But after doing some research on him I realised that he had a good goal scoring record and would bring something different to the team.

I have said for ages now that we need a striker that is different to all our others. He is a small striker and is a natural goal scorer which I think all West Ham fans will agree we haven’t had at all this season.  However Sam Allardyce doesn’t feel the need to include him in any of the first team games. It was rumoured when he arrived he wasn’t match fit but he must surely be fit enough now to just be on the bench.

Maybe I am a bit biased because all season I have been saying how it was wrong for the club to sell both Sam Baldock and Nicky Maynard and not bring in a similar striker to replace them. I think it is always good to have a striker like them in team because they can bring something totally different and can be a big impact from the bench. It also gives the manager more options when changing tactics if we are losing or drawing the game.

Looking for experience? Just want to be heard outside of the Boleyn? We are currently looking for writers, drop us an email at foreverwestham@snack-media.com for more details

Although saying this I haven’t seen much evidence of Allardyce wanting to change tactics during a game and go 442 for example. So this brings me back to the question, what was the point in signing him if we aren’t going to use him?

Please leave me your thoughts.

    A Punt!

We knew he wasn’t going to Lionel Messi! When you’re swimming in the waters that we have been swimming in, and on our first season back, you have to make do sometimes and not everything is going to come off.

Not too much to be ultra critical of!

  • James says:

Big Sam obviously doesn’t think he’s good enough. The rumour is that he was actually a Sullivan signing and had nothing to do with Allardyce. That would make sense, seeing as that it doesn’t look like he will get a game at all between and the end if the season.

So to answer question, there was no point in signing him at all.

we could have ronaldo, messi, bale defoe, remy on our bench they would not get a game sam would not know how to play them he only knows big man up front and hoof the the ball to him. go sam your no premiership manager, championship is your bench mark.

I think it’s entirely possible that all four of our four strikers (Carroll, Cole, Chamakh and Maiga could be on their way in the summer. Perhaps they brought him in to have a look with an eye to next season.

if it’s true that sullivan signed him and big sam hasnt given him a sniff out of pure pigheadedness, i’d be well pissed off if i was sullivan! that’s a total disrespect to sullivan’s money. …it’s not like he was a gypsy pulled off a romanian camping site, he’s a proven goalscorer with experience in brasil’s top league. … i dont understand how sam can play carroll, have cole and chamakh AND maiga on the bench. surely either cole or chamakh would have been enough? leaving space for wellington to pull on his boots..

He was in the squad that travelled to Stoke, and said himself when he signed he’d need a few weeks before being fit enough!

  • telboy007 says:

I’ve seen him play, he isn’t good enough.

  • Ian says:

Get him on the field in a premiership game and let see what he has got. I think some of these players get signed on false promises.

    Crikey….more BFS bashing..

“go sam your no premiership manager, championship is your bench mark”

Come on.. I am a season ticket and watch most away games… I have not witnessed hoofball, I have been dissappointed here and there, but that’s it.

Who would you have? Zola back?, Grant? Maybe Roeder or Di Canio.. don’t make me laugh.. the joke is on you lot.

Paulista has not played..purely due to fitness, BFS WILL NOT play unfit players.. its in his history. Any how.. who would be dropped?? With the exception of Taylor (for Collison) and Vaz Te (for anyone) there is no one who should be out of the team.. BFS is looking to next season… S Americans always take time to blend in to the EPL…

Can we attempt to have a post with no idiotic BFS comments… just once this season?

    • Blimey says:

I’d take Zola back, what did he actually do wrong?
He was hired when the club had money(Or Credit at least), within months he was having players sold off behind his back, and forced to accept Nani/Duxburys dodgy signings, all of who represented financial gain for Nani….

Her got stiffed by the owners.

PS. Who’s the manager of 2nd in the Championship Watford….. and his old Assistant Manager, Steve Clarke, how’s he getting on?

  • paul says:

Im sure Sam will continue with Nolan,Taylor and Carroll as hes prefered players, but totally inifective at the moment..
Paulista im sure would relish the chance if given a start in a match but Sam wouldnt want to upset Nolan by dropping him and going 442….

My prefered team would be a 442 of
    demel,reid,collins,obrien
    cole,collison,diame,jarvis,
    cole,paulista

    subs…..nolan,vaz te, chamahk,taylor,elliot,tompkins,spence

  • Spence55 says:

Even if not fully fit, wouldnt you have thought that Given his 3 goals in 4/5 games since his time at the club, he may have been worth sticking on for the last 15 minutes of a game so we could see his ability ??

  • Taffyhammer says:

Sticking WP on the bench suggests that he will play if needed. We’re not yet ‘safe’ and until that time Sam can not afford the luxury of giving WP a chance to ‘show us something different’. I’m sure that if we win our next three games – then we might see how Paulista gets on playing in EPL. Don’t forget – ‘IN SAVIO WE TRUST’ tits up I think and no chance of getting those points back. COYI.
